The Bozeman Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors met via email vote on Thursday, April 16, 2020, to discuss the May 5 elections that the Bozeman School District and City of Bozeman have put forth to the voters.
We want to thank the Leadership of the Bozeman School District and the City of Bozeman for understanding that the business community and community as a whole need to focus on economic recovery from COVID – 19, without additional burden to their bottom lines.
The Bozeman School District Trustees voted to remove two operating levies that would have increased taxes to the business and residential community, and to proceed in asking voters to approve the Building Reserve, Transition Levy.
The Board voted unanimously to support the School District Ballot Issue, Bozeman High School District No. 7 Building Reserve Transition Levy, and to use this blog for voter education as to what the ballot language means when it comes to your taxes.
Voting FOR the levy will NOT bring increased taxes to homeowners or businesses.
Shall the proposition to organize the City of Bozeman Parks and Trails Special District be adopted?
The Board wants to recognize the Leadership at the City of Bozeman and Mayor Chris Mehl for knowing that economic recovery from COVID-19 must be a top priority and a joint effort between the City of Bozeman, its citizens and its business community.
The Bozeman Area Chamber of Commerce Board agrees with city leadership that we have much higher priorities than the creation of Bozeman Parks and Trails District at this time.
Voting YES for the creation of Bozeman Parks and Trails District WILL increase taxes to homeowners or businesses.
The District's mandatory annual fee for the average lot size of 7,500 square feet would increase over five years, with that same property owner paying an estimated $135 in its first year and $184 by its fifth.
Ballots will be mailed on Monday, April 20, 2020. All business owners should be receiving a ballot. If you do not receive yours, please reach out to the Gallatin County Election Department, or call 406-582-3060.
